matt August 6, 2014 August 6, 2014 So in my last order from air water ice like 1.5 yrs ago I ordered a big bag of DI resin. Just went to change out my DI and I'm seeing no change in my TDS. I may be due for a new membrane too, but my TDS was like 6 with my old DI resin before I yanked it. Now, my post-membrane tds is 11-12 and after the DI resin it's still 11-12. Is there a shelf life to dry DI resin??? I kept it in the ziplock This sucks...I should have done this when I had more than a few gallons of top-off water to spare
matt August 6, 2014 Author August 6, 2014 bump...cuz it looks like I may have to order DI resin even though I thought I had a whole bunch left
howaboutme August 6, 2014 August 6, 2014 If your DI gets any CO2, it will degrade. So maybe at some point between when using it and going into the ziplock back the resin was exposed or it was air leackage. Most recommend vacuum seal or something tighter than a ziplock bag. I personally would never buy bulk for that reason unless you can seal it properly. Best to be safe by buying pre-packed or 1 per pack resin.

So, funny thought...would I have been better off storing it submerged and sealed in RODI water? The DI resin I pulled from the filter was still doing more for TDS elimnation than the 'new' DI resin I replaced it with...and it all came from same batch/order/bag. Yeah, probably going to order a single cartridge at a time now. Have pinged AWI today about useful life as well, but waiting to hear back. ++ I would also add that this was color changing resin...and the resin was still green (not orange). matt August 6, 2014 Author August 6, 2014 The speedy reply form AWI. I like them very much - good get as a club sponsor. Hope they don't mind me posting the below. ------- Hi Matthew! Yes, DI resin will go bad in the Ziploc bag after about 6-9 months. So, for your usage you’d be better off just to order a DI cartridge on an as needed basis or each year with your pre-filters. Pre-filters need replaced at least annually no matter how much water you make. The filters are rated for 6,000 gallons of water (including waste water). So if not every 12 months, then at least every 18 months. Hope this information was helpful! Regards, Sara ---------

In theory yes but you wouldn't want to store it in water unless you're ready to actually use it. It's the exposure to air that will degrade your unused DI faster than the one you're using so I'm not surprised. The color change is just a guideline. I would not change DI based on that, only w/ a TDS meter. Glad AWI got back so fast!
matt August 6, 2014 Author August 6, 2014 Interesting...wish I'd known air was a killer before. Thanks
Djplus1 August 6, 2014 August 6, 2014 BRS has a note next to their bulk package that basically recommends the large pack only if you are a big time water maker and says it will go bad if you try to store it for any length of time.

Oh yeah, I just noticed that after you mentioned it. It's all right there. Good for BRS for mentioning it. Now it's up to the customer to actually read that far in that paragraph..
