Carl February 13, 2006 February 13, 2006 Like I said last time...I've never seen a healthier tank than yours. When you look down, what do you see? the stand underneath? I assume you don't have a painted bottom. Do you like it ?

ErikS February 13, 2006 February 13, 2006 Sand....no sand......either way it's one of the nicest tanks I've seen.
ErikS February 13, 2006 February 13, 2006 Thanks Eriks I owe it all to you! Oh no, no way....no how If that were the case the tank would be like mine....ugly
Gatortailale February 13, 2006 February 13, 2006 Top part of tank looks good - corals look healty. However, what does the bottom part of your tank look like - let us see photos of that to see how clean - or not - a BB system looks Me thinks that a photo that does not show bottom is hiding something. PS: no cleaning before taking pic :P Sorry, but I still love look of some sand or crushed coral on bottom. Keep up the good work with your corals.

No problem I will get some pics of the bottom. I will try and get some later on today!
ErikS February 13, 2006 February 13, 2006 Okay, here's one where you can see the bottom.....just before a weekly cleaning: That's not dirt, just different coraline..........you can see a small pile of dirt just under the rock w/ the frogspawn.
Gadgets February 13, 2006 Author February 13, 2006 IN the pic with th e clam you can see the bottom of the tank through the reflection in the glass. Just to remind you, I painted the bottom of the tank black. I will get some better ones for you.

mutley29 February 28, 2006 February 28, 2006 This tank has to be seen I saw it at a rather ungodly hour this morning, one word. AWESOME Icecap + Deltec AP600 + Neptune AC Jr + BB = Pure, you got that right Thanks for the Frags Chris Was an honour to meet you and see your system Thanks again Anton
Guest alex wlazlak February 28, 2006 February 28, 2006 did you have small sand (sugar graine sized) or crushed coral? im actually thinking about syphoning out my crused coral cause it had a good bit of coraline algea on it and it looks ugly. 3 weeks ago i syphoned out a top layer because there was cyno on it, now ive got more cyno and theres brown algea on it too.
HowardofNOVA February 28, 2006 February 28, 2006 The more I see the BB type of tanks, the more I can appreciate their simplicity! I have a huge sponge issue with my tank, purple, orange, yellow and creme colors mostly. Any reason or cause for it? I notice just about any rocks that I have the undersides after time will have them all over? Also the SB gets alot of it in the sand as well? Seriously thinking of pulling most if not all the sand out and putting in a thin 1/2 layer. Not ready to go cold turkey all together! :D
ErikS February 28, 2006 February 28, 2006 Simplicity? Not sure I'd go there They can/are a good deal of work. No sand = nothing to break the detritus down = means it all has to go out of the tank. Best option is to keep it in suspension until the skimmer takes it out = massive flow (think 7,000+gph on a 150g 4'x2' tank). Still doesn't get it all (small piles left) = siphon it out on a regular basis. Some still makes it into the sump = some mechanical removal (again siphon or filter). = not so much simplicity in the end :D
rocko918 February 28, 2006 February 28, 2006 also, you need to syphon the bottom of the tank regularly to get the waste and crud that gathers in your dead spots. I have a little nano that is bare bottom and i should clean it once a week which i don't. With no fish , only corals i get crud.

Caribbean Jake February 28, 2006 February 28, 2006 Chris nice looking.... great start. although I agree with Craig... have you ever seen a bare bottom (no sand) reef in the ocean? :D right... I like sand in my tanks cause it is more natural and mimics real reefs around the world. but that is just my mho... you keep yours the way YOU like it. :2thumbsup:
ErikS February 28, 2006 February 28, 2006 have you ever seen a bare bottom (no sand) reef in the ocean? Well, when the surf was up twice actually............ooooooooooohhhhh....my mistake you were referring to the bottom of the ocean. Sorry, I really should learn to read :D
