dhoch February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 It's incredibly easy! I did it for my ASM, and wow the control level is awesome. This site has some good pictures: http://www.asmskimmer.com/mod1.htm They even list the parts... the only thing you can't get at home depot is the gate valve (I had to order that online). Norboo February 4, 2006 Share February 4, 2006 (edited) DIY EuroReef gate valve ASMSkimmer Gate Valve FYI: Fisher's in springfield sells PVC gate valve. This should be enough to get you started. Best wishes. Edited February 4, 2006 by Norboo

Norboo February 5, 2006 Share February 5, 2006 I think it quited my skimmer down. Dave 52083[/snapback] Sorry. I was at fisher's today and they no longer carry 1 1/4" Gate valve. I'll have to try Vamac in Alex or Ferguson's on Monday. Skimmer itself isn't loud, it's the pump that makes the noise. You might want to add some pads or use silicone in between the skimmer/pump and sump to keep the vibration down to a minimum. Gate Valve might reduce some noise level. If your overflow makes lot of drain noise, go with Durso Standpipe. I just finished building one. Silent! MegaFlow standpipes are way too noisy. mutley29 February 6, 2006 Share February 6, 2006 Not sure i'm ready to start hacking up my CS12 just yet, the $800 is still ringing in my ears and causing my wallet to spasm whenever i walk into my fish room. And if my wife saw me doing it, the D papers would be in my hands before the ink was dry. It does look and sound like a very good mod though, maybe next year. tygger February 22, 2006 Share February 22, 2006 Glad to see we can get gate valve locally now. Anyone know how many inches under water the output for the mod should be?
Guest Bemmer March 8, 2006 Share March 8, 2006 Norboo, I have the same Euro-reef skimmer as the one in your picture. It has not been wet yet as I am still working on the plumbing. I noticed that I could not remove the elbow and a couple of the pipes that attach to the skimmer at the bottom of the ball valve. I wanted to switch to the gate valve but because some of the pieces appear to be glued it makes it difficult to do the modification....or am I just not pulling hard enough?? <_< Rebecca
