Who needs fancy glass tanks for qt? The pictured one has pH probe, thermometer, heater, airstone, cured rock, live mysis, and an integrated bbs hatchery. The hatchery is submerged mostly in the water to keep it warm. Seems to be working well so far.

You should not have rock in a QT, parasites can hide in there and also if you decide to medicate, your rock can absorb the med and confuse things (among other problems). I suggest putting a HOB filter on there with a seeded sponge inside, or if no seeded sponge is available add liquid nitrifying bacteria. I do see you have PVC bits for hiding so that is good.

It's just observation no meds. No plans to. I have plenty of seeded sponge, but the rock was full of live mysis shrimp, plus 6 months of cure, so in it went. It is 2.5 gallons of water and I do half gallon changes twice per day. I'll take the rock out if I treat because the pods would all die anyway.

Nice, what fish are QT'ing in it?

Haha. What has it got in its bucketses?

I think you've got a great idea going.  I'll be filling up my tank in a few weeks or months and getting in a lot of fish.  I've been wondering how to QT them all and bucket(ses) may do the job.  I am also seriously thinking of putting all the fish in at once and medicating the whole tank because I won't have any live rock or inverts to worry about.

It is much cheaper to medicate a smaller tub or bucket than to try to buy meds for your whole system. Hypo would be OK but purchasing meds would be expensive. Also, some meds can wipe out your biological filter so doing water changes to combat ammonia spikes or remove meds is going to be expensive.

I guess it's a secret. :why:

Not a super secret.  There are two green mandarins in there getting quarantined.  Each about 2.5 inches long.

I'm just being really careful with them and getting them going on live food in the bucket before moving them to a larger tank I have still separate from my main display to start them on things like Nutramar Ova and eventually into my display with at least one of them.  I may offer the other one to someone else if they both do well for a month of observation since I don't want to assume that my 75 has enough microfauna to support two.  I plan on setting up a paul b brine-feeder for the little guy in the main tank and would try that out in the interim tank. I'm discovering that one limitation of the bucket is that I can't really see what they're up to in there and if I want to see them eating I have to move rocks around which freaks them out enough that they don't go hunting.
