Well I didn't QT, I've lost two fish so far, and now I am paying the price. Unfortunately the fish are paying the ultimate price for my judgment. Added two new fish two weeks ago, and now my display tank has an ich outbreak

I just set up a 10 gallon hospital tank with PVC fittings, HOB filter, heater, and some bacteria from the display. I have Cupramine ready, and a Seachem Copper test kit on the way.

This sucks. I know there is debate whether the fish can build up an immunity or not. I have tried that route before, and it hasn't worked. Going to QT everything from now on. Just isn't worth it.

Just another case in point as to why buying fish from a reputable source is strongly suggested.

Define reputable source.

Define reputable source.

Reputable source would be a local fish store that has a QT protocol before selling fish to customers. If they don't have a QT, then don't buy fish from them. Stores that shift the QT process to the customer instead of selling you a healthy product are only out to make a quick buck.

We hold all of our fish for 30 days before selling them to clients. Yes, that means we assume a lot of risk, but we also have very healthy fish.

30 days is great, and I am glad to see your company does that.  However, I don't think any store in the area matches that QT protocol.

I know of one near me that has no protocol whatsoever, and they simply dump the fish they get in directly into their display tanks.  I wouldn't get a fish from there even if they were giving them away.

My QT/HT treatment starts tomorrow. Yippie..

Wish me luck. Fish are in, and Cupramine has been dosed per the instructions.

Fish are stressed out right now. Will leave the light off the rest of the night.

What did you use for live bio filtration?  Monitor ammonia daily and prepare to do water changes to keep ammonia in check.  Also, get one those ammonia alert float thingy (technical term).

I have an Aquaclear 70 HOB filter with a sponge that was in my sump along with some small rubble rock from the display.

Ammonia alert badge is on the tank already.

As far as feeding goes, what do you recommend?

Same food but cut the amount by 50% to help manage the nutrients.  If you notice fish losing weight, increase food a little.  Cupramine will lower their appetite a bit as well.

Keep in mind the sponge is carrying Ich as well.

Thanks for the input.

Yes, the sponge is carrying ich, but will be killed with the copper treatment. I plan on treating for 21 days instead of 14 just to be sure.

Display will remain fallow for 8 weeks starting tomorrow.
