CoralVue has released 120* optics in a white housing for better light distribution over standard with more reflective properties.  They say while increasing the spread it will also help stop any "disco ball" effect some users experience.

I just ordered two myself and will post back once I can check them out and do some comparisons.

Also, on a sidenote CoralVue is now the North American distributer for Elos...

Any update on this?

I like them!

I have 8) Mazarras over a 300g tank and I have zero disco ball effect.

Yea, I think the higher they hang the better it is.  Mine are only about 5" off waterline, so the 120*'s help in my situation to avoid any potential color banding.

Do you have no disco ball effect because of how high the lights are hung or because you have the 120 degree optics on it that BowieReefer was talking about?

There is not much disco with this light to begin with as long as surface agitation isn't extreme.  I really just wanted more even coverage, and even par instead of hot spots under the pods.

My tank is only 24"x12"x14" If it was deeper I'm not sure I would have swapped them.

Do you have this light?  Are you considering the swap?

I don't have this light, but after visiting Quantum Reefs and seeing their 93 Marineland cube display tank, I'm highly considering it for my new build.  It's between the Maxspect 120w 16k and a Kessil a350w/a360w.  I feel like the color mixing (less disco ball) and shimmer are better with the Kessil, but I like the built-in controller with the Maxspect.

You won't go wrong with either. Both will grow corals just fine.

The only downside to Kessil is that it doesn't have an internal timer to program. With Maxspect you can create up to six time points and ramp up / ramp down (sunrise/sunset).
