Rosco's Reefs November 10, 2013 Share November 10, 2013 My kids say I'm cheap...I say I'm frugal. I have been testing and testing, and surely my nitrates aren't THAT high! Is there a life to these fairly-decent test kits? After getting my crazy, high results again tonite I tested with a newer kit I picked up and got amazingly lower results. Just thought I'd ask. I am going to test again. thx
Djplus1 November 10, 2013 Share November 10, 2013 Did you use the same test kit brand? If so, I would say, most likely. There is always the off chance, your new kit is the one that is off though. Everyone always assumes the test that gives them the results they want must be right.
smallreef November 10, 2013 Share November 10, 2013 I always ditch a kit at the 2 year mark, no matter if its got an expiration date further out or none.... they can't be good forever..
Origami November 11, 2013 Share November 11, 2013 They do get old and expire. If not already marked with an expiration date, I mark the open date and toss it after a year or so. If it has a date on it (like Salifert), I'll keep it until that date. I've had API alk kits give God readings for a couple of years, but If you're always cross-check in, what's the point (especially when those kits are relatively inexpensive).
