Gilbert September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 I just bought an aqueous 125 gallon tank and black pine stand...My biggest issue is that I can't get my old 20 gallon sump into the stand. I was thinking maybe I can custom build a bigger and cheap acrylic sump or possible buy someones old sump? then, some how figure out a way to put it into my stand possibly even build it in the stand. Been trying to figure out a way for a few days now....help?
flooddc September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 Pictures of your stand would help. I believed those pine panels support the weight of the tank. I would add a two 2x4 on the side of the stand and remove the side panel and slide a sump into it. The removed side panel can be remount with magnet or velcro.
smallreef September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 Wow that's thin? Is it less than 18inches wide? I'm all for cutting and bracing!
Gilbert September 6, 2013 Author September 6, 2013 Wow that's thin? Is it less than 18inches wide? I'm all for cutting and bracing! yeah I thought the same thing too! on the inside I measured it to be 15 3/4inch wide. Are you familiar with cutting and bracing tank stands?
smallreef September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 Unfortunently not really, but I am familiar with cutting up furniture with a saw Lol.. I've made a few stands.. Never really modified a current one... I would think it should be easy if you have a good jigsaw or are good with a handheld circular saw to cut a hole in one side (or easier if you can take the whole end panel off?) but it's going to be hard to find something to fit in there being that narrow...

I was thinking of just cutting open at one end of the stand so I can slide my sump in there, but I'm scared of degrading the integrity of the stand....
smallreef September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 um..i dont think thats to much of a problem if you can put a 2x4 in each side from the base to the top and either nail or screw it in from the front on that side and the back for the other...
08can-am September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 Is the tank full yet? If not then build a oversized stand courtesy of my sweet S4

steveoutlaw September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 Gilbert - I have a sump, skimmer abd refugium setup that should work for you. PM me for details. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk 2
smallreef September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 Nooooo....inside the stand! On the end... That's umm no... On the side you take off the outside panel, where you see into the stand on each side of the opening, on the inside put a 2x4 from the base to the top...one on the right side, one on the left....

This is what I don't want to do...
zygote2k September 6, 2013 September 6, 2013 does your tank have an internal overflow? if not, it's really not worth the trouble of a HOB and a modified stand when full tank setups are cheap and plentiful around here.
