Have I killed my refractometer?

Haven't used it in a while, pulled it out, place a water sample on it, looked thru...nothing.

 

Looked like brown sludge or something..

 

I said, "My water's not that dirty!"

 

As I looked at it I could see the brown on the inside of the glass, on the prism?

 

Can't see how to get in there and clean it..

 

Is it dead?  Thx in advance WAMAS

It sounds dead to me, like water leaked into the inside of it.

That is my thought as well.  I signed up for the BRS group buy in a few days.  I'll buy a new one.  Thx

Is this even possible? I mean, did you soak it for a bit to clean it or something? I sometimes dip mine in a glass of RODI water if I'm using it to rinse other testing materials, but usually just wipe with paper towel. Maybe I won't dip it anymore if that's gonna happen.
