Yes, any bit you add will help some. It will also offer a nice place for pods to grow inside your tank.

Yes, to can I jam some chaeto in my sump or yes to clipping a wad of chaeto in the display? Or both? Maybe a little "basket" in the display might work better than the clip?

I think yes to either, which ever is the best place for you. If in the sump you can do a reverse day light photo-period which will help keep the pH from dropping at night.

my only concern is chaeto getting jammed up in my skimmer or mj1200/avast mr5. Will a wad of chaeto, remain a wad or will it spread out and muck up my sump? I currently have it in the back of my biocube, where floating around is a non issue. It's super packed in there and would probably benefit from  me removing half to throw in my sump for my 72g.

Small pieces can definitely break off and get sucked in pumps.

Just egg crate it off, I'm growing it by a small egg rated section in my sump atm

Unfortunately that's the problem. No room. Basically, I can throw a wad in between my skimmer and wrap around the heater, pumps etc and hope for the best, or I got nothing. I literally have no "area" to cordone off. That's the problem with the eshopps sump I guess.

I have an eshopps as well, I grew it wrapped around my skimmer previously.

Which eshopps sump? So you just threw your chaeto in without any real problems with your skimmer, etc? Mine is the rs-75.

This is also what I have. I just tried fitting a 20G H as my sump, but it was a quarter inch too big for my stand.

I have my drain on the far left, my skimmer next chamber (the big one) and then my return pump in the far right. I just threw it to the right of my skimmer and put a light on it.

I've now cut egg crate to split my far right chamber in half, and throw it in there. You don't need a tremendous amount of room to grow it, and it should be a fairly tight ball anyways (from what I've been told) I'll send pics when I get home tonight.
