epleeds May 16, 2013 May 16, 2013 I have a tank I look after that has a cyno issue that I can't kick. I have replaced the lights, run chemi-pure and about six months ago even replaced the sand bed. I think the rock has a ton of detritus in it that is causing the cyno. I vacuum the cyno out every week and do a 20% water change each week to no avail. Has anyone had a bad experience with it? I am going to run no lights for 3 days to see if that helps but I'm thinking I need some chemical help.
collegeman May 16, 2013 May 16, 2013 The 3 days lights out should work. Make sure you perform a large water change and run GFO while the lights are out. This method has worked for me when I had cyano.
smallreef May 16, 2013 May 16, 2013 I used chemical clean on my FOWLR... Never in my reef... I used the exact dosage, did the water change as prescribed (turned off my skimmer as recommended), It took a total of 3 times over a week and then I didn't have anymore problems for about 2 years in that same tank (should have replaced lights sooner!) that time it nocked it out in one time....
.OptimusPrime. May 16, 2013 May 16, 2013 I had a cyano issue on my rocks and sand. The 3 day light trick would work for a few then it would come back with even more. It wasn't until I changed the flow pattern and ran GFO/Carbon that it stopped coming back. Check out post #359 in my build thread. The pictures show more HA than Cyano but it was definitely there. I need to update my pictures as I have no cyano and the HA is pretty much gone. I too have much detritus on the rocks. I make it a weekly habit to use a powerhead over them before I do a water change. I would see if you can get more flow to the areas that you are having the issues and see if that changes things.
paul b May 16, 2013 May 16, 2013 I have used it for many years in my reef, great stuff. I even wrote to the manufacturer to tell them it is the only aquarium product that works as stated with no problems. It is a little expensive though.
Guest May 16, 2013 May 16, 2013 I used it and it works great. Just follow the directions and dont add more than it says.
