I have this coral banded for a while now. Today found it in corner of my tank with some of it's molted shell. I originally thought it was just molted shell, but closer look it the shrimp. Apparently, it molted and looks like something attacked it and took both claws and a couple of legs off. Poor thing! Hope it grow back quickly.

this might be a rumor...but doesn't iodine have something to do with their molting? If the level was low it has a difficult time molting and things like that can happen?

I read, dosing iodine promote molting. I don't dose iodine, but all mine shrimps/lobster molted once awhile.

our salt mixes all have a bit of iodine, but there needs to be a balance of all of our levels on the tank which helps with molting...

and the only bad part is that when they do molt they are more susceptible of getting attacked or killed.. which is why they tend to hide right after...

Crustaceans can regrow appendages. Typically this happens with the next molting.

hope it happen soon! it has only 4 legs. I suppose I will have to target feed it until it grow all it legs and claws again!

This one molted many times and usually hid away for a day or two. Just so unfortunate this time around!

that's bad. The large pincers are strictly for defense. CB shrimp (and many other crustaceans) have little pincers on the ends of their front legs that they use to carry food to the smaller arm like things by the mouth which act as food stuffers and stuff the food into their mouths. I don't know if they have those smaller pincers on the back legs. As long as the shrimp can get food to the arm like things by it's mouth, it should be ok. If it can't do that. it's probably doomed.

Do you have more than one CB shrimp? I had a pair in a 29g sump and watched one rip the limbs off the other.
that's some lovers quarrel...you have the Lorena bobbit shrimp version.

It's the only shrimp in the anemone tank. I think either the velvet or lemonpeel took some nip at it when it molted.

your life would be much easier if you would just accept it and go with it. you have a lot of estrogen in your house.

your're right! poor defendless guy doesn't have a chance! Saw it hanging out it's favorite spot today and hours later they attack it again and took out it whiskers too. I tried to catch it to move it to the sump but it got away deep into the rocks!
