Tracy G March 13, 2013 Share March 13, 2013 I almost never measure Ca, MG, and KH so I wanted to see if someone could take a look and let me know if I should be looking at anything? Any advice would be helpful. tº 77.5 F March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:77600,77800,77600,77500,77700,77800,77800,77500,77700,77500|79500,79500,79500,79500,79500,79500,79500,79500,79500,79500&chs=80x30&chco=2e7474,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=77500,79500 pH 8.14 pH March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:8119,8180,8200,8240,8210,8230,8200,8189,8220,8140|8200,8200,8200,8200,8200,8200,8200,8200,8200,8200&chs=80x30&chco=334e9b,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=8119,8240 Ca 430 ppm March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:430000|415000&chs=80x30&chco=545d6c,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=415000,430000 Mg 1400 ppm March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:1400000|1300000&chs=80x30&chco=988e85,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=1300000,1400000 KH 7.8 dKH March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:7800|9000&chs=80x30&chco=d93029,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=7800,9000 NO3 0 ppm March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:0|2500&chs=80x30&chco=3e8bc3,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=0,2500 PO4 0 ppm March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:0|15&chs=80x30&chco=6a266f,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=0,15 NH3 0 ppm March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:0|50&chs=80x30&chco=c5346f,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=0,50 S 1.025 SG March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:1025|1024&chs=80x30&chco=2e4f74,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=1024,1025 NO2 0 ppm March 12 https://chart.googleapis.com/chart?cht=ls&chd=t:0|100&chs=80x30&chco=b39827,00cc77&chls=1|1,4,4&chds=0,
treesprite March 13, 2013 Share March 13, 2013 If you don;t have hard corals, clams, or other animals that need calcium, there's usually no need to add any as long as you are doing regular water changes.
surf&turf March 13, 2013 Share March 13, 2013 Looks like your Cal, and Mag are creeping up, and your Alk is dropping a little. Nothing major, just may need to tweak your dosing a little.
Origami March 13, 2013 Share March 13, 2013 I can't see the charts, unfortunately. However, you're a little unbalanced with respect to calcium and alkalnity. Specifically, alk is a little low for the level of calcium in the system (or calcium is high for the level of alk). Balanced alkalinity for 430 ppm calcium is 9.8 dKH. Looking at it the other way, balanced calcium for 7.8 dKH alkalinity is 411 ppm. Magnesium is OK at 1400 in my opinion. Since I can't see the charts, I can't comment on the trend. What are you keeping in the tank?
Tracy G March 13, 2013 Author Share March 13, 2013 Tank has some softies and 2 pieces of SPS. I'm not dosing anything but I am using Reef Crystals salt so my guess I need to slow on water changes a bit? Thanks for all the responses eventually I will dose but have never done it. Hopefully the Apex can help out se
marinap March 13, 2013 Share March 13, 2013 ReefCrystal is high in alk, 13 DKH I believe. Did you send your water out for tests? Measure alk again, that reading is not right, consdering your stock.

marinap March 13, 2013 Share March 13, 2013 Your test kit might be off. I would use/borrow hanna or take a sample to LFS.
Tracy G March 13, 2013 Author Share March 13, 2013 Your test kit might be off. I would use/borrow hanna or take a sample to LFS.I will do both. I will retest tonight and make sure to go slower only done that test twice. Will also see if someone can test it a LFS. I think I have overshot my budget for new toys as I got the new skimmer, Apex with PH and lots of other stuff lol

Tracy G March 14, 2013 Author Share March 14, 2013 Yeah I think my kit is bad. It goes from a lite blue color to almost a very light orange color and at no point does it look anything like the colors on youtube. I have the Reef Foundations Pro Test kit and its maybe 4 months old and only the 2nd time I used it........
