jimlin January 20, 2013 January 20, 2013 wow, how tall is that skimmer? Anything ever make it into the collection cup?
GraffitiSpotCorals January 20, 2013 Author January 20, 2013 I dunno maybe 5' with the skimz body on there. It's skimming all the way up now, seems to have helped make it less touchy for sure. I am happy Adam fixed it up for me.
smallreef January 20, 2013 January 20, 2013 (edited) Looks awesome all set up now....tried envisioning it last night at the store..but now... WOW... Hope it skims the crap out of your tank, literally! Edited January 20, 2013 by smallreef
Coral Hind January 20, 2013 January 20, 2013 That thing is huge. Does it have a valve on it, what did you do to get the water level up in it?
GraffitiSpotCorals January 20, 2013 Author January 20, 2013 It has a gate valve on the output. It was all the way open in that pic because it was still freshly glued. Although I didn't wait long (man I was excited). Once I brought the flange and everything to Adam and he made it fit perfectly. I am using either a wahoo or a marlin (whichever is bigger I forget) to supply it. Putting the larger diameter piece on there really helps it skim right.
GraffitiSpotCorals January 20, 2013 Author January 20, 2013 pHere is a pic when I started testing it.
flooddc January 20, 2013 January 20, 2013 Nice! Is that the same skimmer you tried to sell awhile back?
Coral Hind January 20, 2013 January 20, 2013 So does your venturi pull the air from the collection cup?
GraffitiSpotCorals January 20, 2013 Author January 20, 2013 Yea it pulls from the cup. I have a hose one there now. Yea I ended up selling the ro because my sump is basically a fuge and I prefer external.
monkiboy January 21, 2013 January 21, 2013 that's neat, sir. hope it continues to work out for you. specifically which two bodies of which models did adam join for you? and which flange did you use?
GraffitiSpotCorals January 23, 2013 Author January 23, 2013 Skims 181 I think, added a foot in total height but the transfer to 4" before the 3" riser makes it SO much better. It was really touchy with a big pump. The skimmer did great when I ran a 1100 gph pump its the big pump that made it touchy. We just cut the life reef top off and the thing fit almost perfect in between. Cut the life reef flange to a 4" hole and glued the body to it. Then glued the riser to the top of the skims body.
GraffitiSpotCorals January 23, 2013 Author January 23, 2013 Oh yea, I will try and get a pic of some skim after I let it go for a few days. Normally I clean them daily but now it should run longer before inane to clean it.
steveoutlaw January 23, 2013 January 23, 2013 I love it.........Frakenskimmer! You need to design your own label and put it over the Lifereef and Skimz labels.
