Just putting together a "starting out" fish list for my new 300 reef tank. I can only get a few at a time because I am putting everyfish in QT, and I only have 2 QT tanks, so this is what I am thinking of starting with....

6- Dispar Anthias (in one of the 20L QT Tanks)

1- Tail Spot Blenny (in the other 20L QT Tank with the 4-Lemon Chromis)

4- Lemon Chromis

I plan to put the following in later...

2-Powder Blue

1-Naso Tang

3-Yellow Tangs

Pair of Blue Jaw Triggers

1-Kole Tang

1-Purple Tang

1-Lepoard Wrasse

Thanks for looking.

One of my all time favorite fish is the Sohal Tang if you get it I might just have to move into your basement LOL

the list looks good so far bro... you might want to include some gobies and some large angles!

Not sure about angels...but they are beautiful!

Good point Tony...as far as the wrasse goes, I think I might try him even though I have a bare bottom....my yellow wrasse did great for over a year (till he jumped to his death, now I have screens)

I plan on keeping mainly SPS.

LOOK....just cuz they call you Mr Softy, doesnt mean anything !

I love the the juvi chevron's....keeping my options open. Good call!

2 powders blues??? Ones going to kill the other in a 300. I would just stick with one. Careful with 3 yellows and a purple, they are all Zebrasoma. Purples are agressive.

gotcha Bob...thanks. I have seen many tanks with 3 yellows and a couple of powders......I just thought it would be ok....guess not.

Pretty nice fish list!

Funny thing though, almost everyone said that they will keep only certain type or coral or fish only tank. But then...we all know exactly what happen!!!

Your right Chuck....I said mainly lps and softies in my 90 and that is mostly sps!

gotcha Bob...thanks. I have seen many tanks with 3 yellows and a couple of powders......I just thought it would be ok....guess not.

How much aggression are you willing to live with? The Tangs need to go in last and at the same time. I hate to say it, but size matters. Two inch Tangs will be fine, but 4-5" Tangs will raise the aggression level quite a bit. It can be done, but expect some Tangs to get suffer from tail whip occasionally. Personally, I would not add more than three of the same body type (Zebrasoma).

I'm going to stir up the pot with my experience. My 360 has a desjardini, blonde naso, purple, and an orange shoulder. I know that's not a lot- but the desj and purple are both over 6" now and the naso is pushing 8 (and were when I added them). I was really worried about how they would get along at first and had a backup 180 in case someone didnt get along BUT they are all as friendly as I've ever seen any fish and they all have races back and forth with my rabbitfish pair. If they're not racing, they're all in a tight group waiting for me to feed them. I don't call them the herb gang for nothing - they do everything together.

My point is, with that big of a tank it just might work and if you think it might work, you should try it. Just have a backup plan and watch them in case things go south... and food, lots of food.

What kind of clean up crew are you thinking about getting?

I dont know yet.....

Prolly just have Paul come over and clean it ! (piper27)
