Guest Keyoke September 18, 2005 Share September 18, 2005 I was very, very taken with this tank and now I feel I must own one. I've done some quick looking, and can't seem to find any of those teeny square tanks. Anyone know where I can find one?
Gadgets September 18, 2005 Share September 18, 2005 Not sure where you can get one, but did u notice that it was it with LED lighting. Cool huh... Guest Keyoke September 19, 2005 Share September 19, 2005 Yeah, I think that's one of the things that got me so interested. I managed to figure out the mfgr of the LED "Ballasts" that were used - looks like they were Advance SignPRO kits -- http://www.advancetransformer.com/products/led.jsp?pbid=32 LEDs are a little more tricky, though I noticed that they seemed to be mounted on individualized PCBs. Aside from mounting, there's no other real need for a PCB, and the LEDs didn't look surface mount. I found two different likely candidates for the LEDS -- Led Dynamics Io and ELARA emiiters http://www.leddynamics.com/LuxDrive/datash...-Elara-Moon.pdf -- Elara http://www.leddynamics.com/LuxDrive/datash...020-Io-Moon.pdf -- Io Or the Luxeon STAR series - http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/le...xeon-StarVC.pdf -- For colored LEDs (Note that the BLUE peaks at 470nm, which is pretty spiffy as a Actinic/03 replacement) http://lib1.store.vip.sc5.yahoo.com/lib/le...xeon-StarVW.pdf -- for the White LEDs (Note that these seem to sit at the 5500K Range on avg, but can max @ 10K, spiffy again) I just sent off a sample request to LED Dynamics for about 8 (4 ea) of the White & Blue ELARAs (120 Deg View) and a BoostPUCK driver.. I'm curious to see if they'll send me some. Now if I can only find one of those teeny tanks.

HowardofNOVA September 21, 2005 Share September 21, 2005 Folks, Buddy Scroggins, Supplier of the Chinese Bulbs was telling me they have designed a LED lighting system that will put out about 65w of light+. Doing research on it now. You can contact him for more details. FWIW, I've got a 10g system that works "ok", but mainly because I can do the DAILY upkeep to keep the system healthy. Amazing how much a gallon of water evaporation in a 10g system (10%) vs 100g system (1%) can change the complexity of your tank. Heat is the biggest problem in the summer especially. Doesn't make alot of sense to hook up a $600.00 Chiller to a 2.5g-10g system It is and will always be in constant need of attention. ALOT more than normal size tanks. I use a 5g tank as my QT tank beside my 75g as well. Keep all of this in mind before you setup these small tanks and good luck. Cool too! Tho I'm curious - with the smaller surface area of a nano/micro tank, your evaporation rate would also decrease - hopefully signifacantly? Granted a lot would have to do with the environmental conditions - relative humidity, temprature, air flow, elevation Also have you noticed that the tank is any more sensitve to poor water quality? I would think that even small quantities of Amonia or anything else considere 'unhealthy' would be more damming in a smaller tank?
Sugar Magnolia September 26, 2005 Share September 26, 2005 My 2.5 has been running since Jan '04 and I find it to be much easier to maintain than my 30 cube. Daily water top-offs are a must. I have 2x13 watts over it and it evaporates about 1/2 cup a day. Weekly 10% water changes keep the water quality high and I modded an AC 70 into a fuge that holds a few pieces of LR rubble and some chaeto. I've never had a nuisance algae or cyano issue in this tank. I have however, rescaped it twice now, most recently a few weeks ago because the tank was being overrun by vermetid snails, a hydroid issue and some clavularia and pachyclavularia that was growing like weeds. Went to a BB too.
