Huly October 1, 2012 Share October 1, 2012 Well our tank is a few months in and with a lot of hand holding by Origami and Sean at F&F and few new additions by Matt Bills things are looking pretty good. Thoughts? We do have this white stuff almost like a spiderweb on our rock. Any idea what it is? Origami October 1, 2012 Share October 1, 2012 The hammer looks retracted. How is the flow around it? If too high, it can pull back. If the clowns are aggressively trying to host it, it may also pull back. Are these recent pictures or early pictures shortly after introduction? No these were taken this weekend (saturday & Sunday) but we found out our Alkalinity was too low. It was an 8 according to Sean at F&F it needs to be a 10 and we were due for a water change so we did a water change and retested it yesterday and it was only 8.5 so he gave us some stuff to add to the tank and we are restesting today. It is towards the bottom of the tank and the high flow is farther up and the clowns do not mess with it at all. We also were not target feeding it but Sean sold us Microplankton 2.0 to target it and a few other LPS and we saw them feeding yesterday.
Origami October 1, 2012 Share October 1, 2012 Christie, regular old Arm & Hammer baking soda can be used to raise your alkalinity. I like to use Jose Dieck's reef chemistry calculator to figure out how much to use: http://reef.diesyst.com/chemcalc/chem_calc3.html

Origami October 3, 2012 Share October 3, 2012 On the white stuff, I was wondering if it was strings of mucus from vermetid snails or possibly an invasive white sponge. Have you tried picking it out with a pair of tweezers?

Jan October 19, 2012 Share October 19, 2012 Looks great!!! Do the white strings seem to appear more when you feed? Can you pull them off the rock? If they appear more when you feed they are most likely vermatid. If you can pull them of and roll them bewtween your fingers and they don't break down or disolve, they are most likely sponge. Keep up the great work.
Huly October 19, 2012 Author Share October 19, 2012 (edited) Thank you everyone! The white spider web stuff disappeared once we got our Alk up so no clue what it was but it is gone. Now just sand everywhere thanks to obnoxious Gobies LOL Edited October 19, 2012 by Huly
