Anyone in the club do this? I would hate to have to call an AC guy to refill it. Service call will be like 50-80 bucks.

Thoughts?

If it's a larger unit (around 1/2 HP or larger) and the components are separately... it's a breeze... Provided you have the vacuum equipment to do it...

Unfortunately, most of us do not have that equipment and need to call in someone who does.

BTW, if it's a smaller unit, some may not service it.

Sorry to be the bad news bearer here.

^yes, that's exactly it...

The system should be drained, vacuum dried and recharged.

Something like that probably would work (provided it's the correct refrigerant), but the system should be prepped first.

would a shop vac work?

According to the the Current USA specs it does use R134-A freon. I will try that first.

I would just try recharging first, most places don't vacuum the AC systems on cars before they recharge them.

I think most places do evacuate the system before recharging.

They did for mine.

It was registering "full" because it was full of moisture that had displaced the refrigerant, so they couldn't add any more until it was evacuated.

I my brother could help you with it.

If this recharge can does not work i might be calling you!

Thanks

Most smaller chillers do not even have the connection fittings for both high and low sides. Just one, to charge the system with. They do have an inline dryer.

Check yours to see if you have both sides or one crimped off.

The system will need to be pulled into a deep vacuum to remove moisture (generally below 300 microns). Unless you are in the trade, you probably don't have the equipment. I got out of the trade years ago due to the MAJOR increase in regulations. If it has pulled in as mush moisture as it sounds like, you may have to flush out the system with a "flush out" cleaner. Good luck with this, let us know how it turns out.

i do not have that type of vacuum. Is there anything else i can do to dry it out? Blow air into it? Hair dryer? Is this flush out kit at walmart or something?

Chip will check on the high and low fittings.

I got my recharge kit from Walmart for my car. it comes with oil and freon in the can and a pressure gauge as well so that you dont over fill it. Just make sure there isnt a leak in your system before trying to recharge it. i did not evacuate before re-charge and it worked fine for me.

Actually now that I have it apart. I did a quick plug in and the fan tries to turn but does not. Should the fan be blowing right as it turns on? Wonder if the fan is dead.

kind of hard to see the fittings, but to me it looks like you have female couplings on there which may not work with the re-charge kits for cars and may require a adapter.

There are 2 valves. which one should i hook up too?

no worries, i dont think that is the issue right now. the fan does not turn, when it is plugged in i can spin the fan and it starts to go but makes a horrible noise. Will try replacing that before i even try the recharge.

a little WD40 and it works again. Good thing i took it apart and trouble shooted it before i did anything else.
