PotomacBoater July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 I'm finally ready to start putting fish into my tank. I've done a lot of reading and these are the fish I WANT to put in the tank I want to see if some of them are too docile (or too small) and what order I could put them in so they can establish their own territory, etc The tank is currently a 90G FOWLR with snails and hermits. Any concerns with the following list? Blue Dot Jawfish Yellow Belly Regal Tang Orchid Dottyback Cuban hogfish angel (either flame, or lemonpeel, or redstripe) wrasse (blue head, or goldbar, or hardwicke, or lyretail, or pinkface) flame hawkfish
Jan July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 (edited) You can look these up yourself and read about their requirements and compatability on live aquaria. One of the best ways to learn about your fish and how to keep them is by reading about them yourself. Look up each fish by entering their name in the search box. You'll get a picture with a full description of requirements for keeping http://www.liveaquaria.com For additional information do a a search on google. Here's the compatability chart http://www.liveaquar...ility_chart.cfm Blue Dot Jawfish - very beautiful, pricey and a jumper. I would not add this fish with aggressive fish. I would also consider a lid or some sort. I've heard that Marine scene gets some really nice ones in. Yellow Belly Regals - hard to find. Blue bellies are easier to find but often times caught with cyanide. The cyanide does not leave their system and the fish will appear fine for weeks then all of a sudden they die. The yellow bellies are usually not caught with cyanide and are hard to find making them very pricey in the $200.00+ range. The major issue with these fish is getting them to eat. Many starve to death. An expert only fish. Best to buy from someone who already has one or from one of our LFS sponsors that will make sure they are healthy and eating. I'd ask Sean at F&F's about this fish. I'm finally ready to start putting fish into my tank. Coral Hind July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 Nice list, the hog fish can get big for a 90g tank so I would start with a smaller sized one. The key to keeping the jawfish is feeding it often, at least two times a day if not more. Also, make sure to have a screen over the tank as they love to go carpet surfing when startled. PotomacBoater July 30, 2012 Author Share July 30, 2012 Jan, I read your post about Yellow Belly's and Cyanide Sean already ordered me one, and he is currently in QT. I trust him to give me a healthy fish. I bought a cover, so jumping shouldn't be an issue. Doesn't the hogfish eat a lot as well as the jawfish? I know that its the same thing, since I probably have to target feed the jawfish The Jawfish and the dottyback were both questionable, hence why I asked. The other thing I've read is ... almost ALL of them should be the "last fish added to a tank" hence why I asked what the stocking order should be. Any favorites from the wrasse or angel list? I want things that not everyone else is the club has (except when there is a REASON that no one has them) Thanks for all the help!
Coral Hind July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 Doesn't the hogfish eat a lot as well as the jawfish? Eating a lot and needing to eat often are the differences. The hogfish eats a lot as in being a pig while the jawfish must eat more often as it eats small portions at a time. The other thing I've read is ... almost ALL of them should be the "last fish added to a tank" hence why I asked what the stocking order should be. I would add the jawfish before the hawkfish as the hawkfish can be aggressive towards other bottom dwellers. I think you should be fine adding the other fish in at anytime as long as the sizes match with larger ones being added last. If the wrasse is big then I would add it last. If smaller then the others then adding it earlier is fine. adding them in groups is better then one at a time. Any favorites from the wrasse or angel list? I want things that not everyone else is the club has (except when there is a REASON that no one has them) Thanks for all the help! My favs would be the red stripe angelfish and the goldbar wrasse. I'd ask Sean at F&F's about this fish. I think he was asking about a yellow bellied regal tang, not angel. The yellow bellied regal tangs are no harder to keep then the regular ones, just a little prettier imo. The info for a regal angel is right on though. PotomacBoater August 2, 2012 Author Share August 2, 2012 Is the thinking that if I add the jawfish early and he gets acclimated to the tank and comfortable over time that he will not be too scared by new, BIGGER tank mates?
