PotomacBoater July 12, 2012 July 12, 2012 I have a 55G drum for RODI water and I would like to keep it at the same temperature as the tank. I have an Ebo Jager 150W heater BUT its not submersible Am I going to have to spring for a new one or is the some product (or DIY solution) that I could use to float the heater in the drum? I'm worried about mounting it in one spot because its not always full
trockafella July 12, 2012 July 12, 2012 Seems like a waste of time and energy to me. The amount your adding everytime your ATO tuens on shouldnt influence tank temp at all. To me, its just one more thing to go wrong. Whats your reasoning for wanting to do this.?
icecool2 July 12, 2012 July 12, 2012 Agree with trock. Room temperature isn't typically that far from tank temp. Unless you are making really large percentage water changes, you'd be better off saving on your electric bill there.
hypertech July 12, 2012 July 12, 2012 What they said. HOwever, if you insist, just get a piece of styrofoam and poke a hole in the middle of it to hold it. That's how I float my pH probe. I don't know why that wouldn't work for this too.
PotomacBoater July 12, 2012 Author July 12, 2012 Room temperature is pretty close to my tank temp (its no like this is in a basement or a garage) I guess the heater may be overkill. Atleast its one less thing to worry about Thanks for the help!
Origami July 12, 2012 July 12, 2012 Jager heaters are fully submersible. There were a bunch of them that were marked with a water line several years back when the heater manufacturing moved to Germany after a corporate change. Because of the move, their UL listing had to be reissued and, in the interim, the heaters were marked as not fully submersible in order to be sold on the US market. I suspect that this is one of the models you're using.
PotomacBoater July 12, 2012 Author July 12, 2012 I wondered about why that line was there, thanks for the update Origami
OldReefer July 14, 2012 July 14, 2012 I have been using an Eheim submerged in a salt-mix tank for years. They work great. Just like Tom said.
