Tear down and rebuild

I did a teardown of a sump and associated plumbing to fix some leaks that have been an issue for the past 4! years. The client finally allowed the repair.

2) 1" bulkheads drilled 1/2" from top of glass were leaking slowly which resulted in an enormous amount of salt creep, particle board expansion and disintegration and ultimately water damage on the viwing side walls. A leaky 1" bulkhead on the suction side of the sump ultimately caused the disintegration of the particle board bottom of the cabinet.

Do not let 'carpenters' build your new tank cabinetry with particle board. This stuff is 100% crap.

When you build anything in an enclosed space, try to think what it will be like if a problem occurs and how you will have to fix it.

This particular tank was surrounded on the ends with particle board with a 3/4" air gap. To remove a section, I had to use a holesaw sans centerbit instead of a reciprocating saw. It took forever, but I never hit the tank with the bit.

Next on the list is a rebuild of the cabinet bottom and a relocation of the light hardware to a safer spot.

If your tank looks like this and you had a "professional" maintenance company install it, find someone else. This original install was done by a southern Maryland aquarium maintenance company.

Nice work on fixing the tank! Why don't you run the return line down the back top of the tank to the other end so you get proper water exchange/movement?

Can't- there's another cabinet on the other side filled with kid stuff. I'd like to do that plus some other things to convert it into a reef tank instead of a fish-only tank.

I have to dig up the pictures of my old particle board stand.... literally crumbled apart in my hands!
