mutley29 August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 All my SPS are RTN'ing and i don't know why, all params are fine, phos 0 and have added nothing new to tank for at least 6 weeks, it's strange because my ricordia seem to be suffering too as do my hammers and torches to a lesser degree, everything else is fine, clams are happy as are my 2 RBTA's, i'm stumped, have been running carbon and phos ban 24/7 and changed out regularly, nothing seems to work. just about to start a large water change 40% or so. Anyone got any ideas? Anton ____________
craby August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 I would frag the salvagable parts of the SPS that RTN has not reached yet ASAP. Through away the white skeleton. Basicaly it's a chain reaction some times w/ RTN where it jumps from coral to coral & removing the dead coral can help stop this chain reaction.
flowerseller August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 What is your DKH? (carbonate hardness - alkalinity) I always start with that since it contrbutes to both RTN and colorloss. A water change will dilute the problem for now.
flowerseller August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 were do you keep yours? I like to keep mine around 7/8 drops :D Too low and you see RTN and colorloss
GaryL August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 I like to keep mine around 7/8 drops :D Too low and you see RTN and colorloss 36109[/snapback] per minute? lol i forgot sorry
flowerseller August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 It depends on the test kit and what you are testing for. I can't remember the name of the test kit I use but it comes in a blueish box. I like around 4-5 meq/l (7-8 drops) or 10-11 dKH
flowerseller August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 Is the sand binding (clumping together) in the tank? Personally, I would try to lower it a bit through water exchanges. What are you adding to get it that high?
GaryL August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 kalk reactor. ph stays round 8.0 - 8.4 i took it off line. i will start the h20 changes now. have 70g made up already.
pez August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 What salt are you using? High levels of Mg can contribute to false high dKH readings. Thus, more water changes might contribute to the problem rather than resolving it. Oh, if it's not broken, don't fix it. What makes you think 15dKH is bad? I personally would strive for 4meq/L, but if it's working for you, why "fix" it? -Tom
flowerseller August 5, 2005 August 5, 2005 Because he stinks and doesn't like himself. help, i stink and i don't like me!!!
