Origami May 10, 2012 May 10, 2012 What size tank? I've used AquaEuro on a 34 gallon Red Sea Max and have seen used JBJ Artica chillers re-sold here that have been in service for some time, too.
Origami May 10, 2012 May 10, 2012 How many degrees above where you want to be is your tank running (maximum)?
STEVE May 10, 2012 Author May 10, 2012 It will go to 83 if I dont have the MH's set to go off at 81.5.
Origami May 11, 2012 May 11, 2012 What's the total Wattage on your system (not counting the heaters). Include lights, pumps, etc. Just make a quick estimate. I'm trying to figure the heat loading (assuming that the tank is not sitting in a window getting a lot of sunlight). You're probably looking at a 1/4 HP or 1/3 HP JBJ Artica is my guess. One of our members, RocknCoral (I think), had a few that he was trying to sell at a very reasonable price a while back. I don't know if he ever sold them, though. It was starting to cool down and people weren't thinking much then about tanks overheating.
rocko918 May 11, 2012 May 11, 2012 It will go to 83 if I dont have the MH's set to go off at 81.5. during the summer mine will stay around 82-83. Been running it like this for 4 years. Never had an issue. You don't need a chiller.
STEVE May 11, 2012 Author May 11, 2012 I am going to try a couple of clamp on fans and see if that helps. Thanks Bob. Tom it looks like 1/4 hp would be fine. Just really dont want to have to add another piece of equipment, I am going to watch it for a couple of days. PM me with your number Tom, I lost it. Thanks
yauger May 11, 2012 May 11, 2012 Dude you don't need a chiller. Save the $$ and buy some cheap fans. Since switching to radions I keep the temp stable at 75. If it ever jumps up high I'll simply buy a Cheapo fan and rig it up.
