firecrackerbob February 17, 2012 February 17, 2012 I have a fuge going right now with two baskets of cheto that are covered in a mossy green hair algae. in my previous tanks I never had this problem and my cheto was always pretty "clean". do you guys think its a bad thing or do you think I should dump whats in there and start with fresh cheto? It seems like the GHA is slowing the growth of the cheto, but the whole mass is still pruneable...
Coral Hind February 18, 2012 February 18, 2012 Unless it is getting into the display tank and making a mess I would just let it go.
Incredible Corals February 18, 2012 February 18, 2012 I wouldn't risk it getting into the display. Find someone that can start you over with some fresh cheato. Easy fix.
zygote2k February 18, 2012 February 18, 2012 pull as much GHA out and then prune the chaeto too. chaeto needs to be cut back regularly in order to flourish.
treesprite February 18, 2012 February 18, 2012 (edited) I used to have HA in my refugium, would just pull it off the macros if it was on them, and let the stuff on the walls stay there since it helps just as much as the macros do (have no HA in either place now). If there is none in the display currently, there must be something in the display keeping it away that isn't also in the fuge (because the water is all the same water), meaning it would also take care of any stray that went through the plumbing.
