SunWyrm October 14, 2011 October 14, 2011 (edited) are these either/or? I mean as in the different clowns and eels? Edited October 14, 2011 by YiatzOfEden
daharley October 14, 2011 Author October 14, 2011 This is what I already have. I feel like I am getting close.
SunWyrm October 15, 2011 October 15, 2011 Oic, how are they all doing together? I'm integrating my fish into one big tank and would like to hear how yours are doing. Some of your tankmates have me curious. Can't help you on stocking levels though I tend to understock but I keep buying things so for me this has just meant more tanks...
Coral Hind October 15, 2011 October 15, 2011 I think a tank that size could hold more but it depends on the size of the fish and the filtration setup. The eels are big waste producers but as long as they are not over fed you should be able to add a few more fish.
SunWyrm October 15, 2011 October 15, 2011 Just saw your pics thread. You have gorgeous fish and what looks like plenty of swimming room for everybody. What more are you looking to put in there?
daharley October 15, 2011 Author October 15, 2011 So far everyone gets along. The eels are the newest residents. Not too worried about the golden dwarf but the zebra eel I have been watching. Just for accidents that I have heard about. I have had everything but the eels for a while now. The only other planned fish I was thinking was a dwarf zebra lionfish. After I get him I will probably let them settle for a while again and see how it goes.
daharley October 15, 2011 Author October 15, 2011 I am trying for every 2 days feeding the eels but I am going to be guided by the zebra eels behavior. Make sure no one gets eaten lol.
SunWyrm October 15, 2011 October 15, 2011 (edited) Zebra's are very peaceful with fish; from what I've read they're best and safest choice. Watch his diet too My snowflake begs constantly for food, but it's adorable and breaks my heart not to give her some food. She's very good with my fish; I have a small female hawkfish that I worry over constantly that's in with the eel. She likes to perch next to the eel's head all the time. Speaking of, if there's any of your fish you should pair, it's the hawkfish. I love my male falco so much I got him a girl and they are inseparable. They are by far the most entertaining pair I have. Edit: Accidentally a word. Edited October 15, 2011 by YiatzOfEden
BowieReefer84 October 15, 2011 October 15, 2011 Maybe some wrasses or anthias or both... Maybe one more tang. Perhaps a foxface?
SunWyrm October 15, 2011 October 15, 2011 I was wondering how the clown's got along, but then realized you probably didn't have 2 pairs. I was wanting to put in two perc/occ pairs in my 360 but was advised against it...well my b/w male fixed my problem for me and now I have one pair :( Your list just made me take pause is all. Don't often see that mix and I think it's cool with everything you have going on. If your hawkfish is on the larger side, just try and get one that's still tiny. That's the only advice I found on pairing them and I got the sweetest little one on LA. It was an instant hit with them when I put "her" in, but my big guy was also more than likely male. Good luck to you if you try it!
daharley October 15, 2011 Author October 15, 2011 Oddly enough you mentioning it makes the hawkfish the only one I have ever thought of pairing. When I started the only things I knew that I wanted were the tangs. I just kind of made my list by what was pretty or neat lol. A buddy of mine was looking at the tank and talking about how everywhere you look you see something different going on and said can you get anything else how about an eel. So thats how they came about. I will have to try to be a little less random maybe whenever I get started on corals.
daharley October 15, 2011 Author October 15, 2011 Bowiereefer also has me thinking of a small school of anthias now because they school lol .
SunWyrm October 16, 2011 October 16, 2011 Cardinals also school. I'm going to be getting my flasher wrasse some females soon, who kinda school together. Just in case you wanted something of a different size/color I thought I throw these ideas at you. Anthias are beautiful, but most of the ones I see are on the larger side, though I think they'd be beautiful in your tank.
daharley October 16, 2011 Author October 16, 2011 I have been reading I am thinking either the anthias or firefish my wife and son love the firefish. Gonna look at cardinals real quick.
SunWyrm October 16, 2011 October 16, 2011 I have firefish, and though many sites list them as schooling they like to be in pairs more. They are definitely beautiful fish to have. They like to hide for days at a time in their cave/barnacle..whatever you give them or they find. It's usually no cause for worry, I placed my barnacles at the front corner of the tank and when they escape to there and I can see them. Some fish swim too quickly and make them scared (like tangs). As long as they are comfortable in the tank and have a place they like to hide they should be fine and will become more outgoing even with the faster fish swimming next to them. A cover or keeping your water level a few inches lower would be best for them as their only lines of defense are hiding or jumping out of water. Treesprite has kept multiple pairs of different firefish without problem in her tank.
