Guest thefishman65 August 19, 2011 August 19, 2011 Well as most you know I just finished a group buy on the Hanna Calcium Checkers. I have not read both of these yet, but in the interest of getting accurate results I pass this on from Reef Centeral since others are having problems. Hanna's Calcium Checker Way Off??? Calcium checker - Hanna Forum so it has responses from the manufacturer
Origami August 19, 2011 August 19, 2011 Havent tried mine yet, but not what I wanted to hear. Same here. I haven't even taken mine out of the BRK bag yet. The reports in Hanna's thread are variable right now. I didn't see a response yet from Hanna but am interested in seeing what they have to say.
Guest thefishman65 August 19, 2011 August 19, 2011 I was helping one of the guys that bought one with LEDs. We tested his water while I was there and IIRC it read 483. He brought a sample in the next day and I got 450 with I think a Red Sea's test kit (one drop is 50 ppm so not very accurate). I have not yet used mine either.

bankyf August 19, 2011 August 19, 2011 I tested using my rodi and got 600. Bought some distilled water and got 495. That is still a little higher than my Lamotte kit. I need to try to find some lab grade di water locally. The problem is that the test uses 9ml of rodi water and .1 ml of sample water, so just the slightest trace of calcium in your rodi sends the results through the roof.
bankyf September 1, 2011 September 1, 2011 Hanna has acknowledged that this kit is difficult for the average person to obtain accurate results. Previously they suspected the RODI water that we use may not be clean enough, but they now believe that the problem may be the accurate measurement of .1ml of sample. They are currently working on a resolution and made it clear that they will take care of all customers when have the problem resolved, just like they did with the alkalinity kit.
