Swimboy123 April 13, 2011 Share April 13, 2011 So I'm about building out a 280g total volume system and I'm working on my lighting needs. I came across a company called Vertex Aquaristik out of Austria that I have never heard of. (http://www.vertexaquaristik.com) They have a model called the Illumilux that sounds like it will fit my needs (http://www.vertexaquaristik.com/Products/Lighting/LED/Illumilux/MarinoBianco.aspx) but i would be spending around a grand on this. Anybody that has had any experience with this company or this lighting system, please post your opinions! We gamble money sometimes in this hobby but a heads-up would be great! Thanks is advance! zygote2k April 13, 2011 Share April 13, 2011 Vertex isn't allowed to sell its' lighting products in the USA due to a patent issue with Orbitec. You may be able to bootleg them out of Canada....
amay121 April 13, 2011 Share April 13, 2011 A grand. Wow you must be getting special pricing. For the Vertex and depending on how long your tank is (if it's 72" long), you're looking at a bare minimum of 2 - 3K. As another alternative, I'd look into the ecoxotic pill cannons. They're supposed to have a spread of 36" x 24" and will be going for $600-$700 a piece depending on whether you get the dimmable adapter or not. Also, for that same price, Aqua Illuminations are supposed to be fantastic as well and have many of the features similar to the Vertex. One last option would be Maxspect since everything can be swapped out should you require to swap out any of the leds or lenses.

Swimboy123 April 13, 2011 Author Share April 13, 2011 I've found Vertex offered by more than a couple vendors in the US. Put it into Amazon and a dozen vendors pop up. The pricing seems pretty unilateral. I haven't heard about any patent issues though...

Not sure. http://glassbox-desi...-light-fixture/ and http://glassbox-design.com/2010/vertex-lumina-led-light-ship-march/ have some info. amay121 April 13, 2011 Share April 13, 2011 Pill Cannons are the 100W versions. I keep on saying Pill to you because it looks pill shaped.
overklok April 13, 2011 Share April 13, 2011 I have the Aqua Illuminations setup, it is the most flexible lighting system out. With its' modular design and upgradeable setup, it is the way to go. It is almost future proof.
Incredible Corals April 13, 2011 Share April 13, 2011 I've been so tempted to sell my Ecoxotic fixture and go with one 100w Canon. That would look so slick over a rimless cube. Anyone seen those canons in action?
JungliztKruger April 14, 2011 Share April 14, 2011 Temp setup. Going on the 45 cube next to it. It's 21 inches above a ten gallon to give the corals tine to adjust.
JungliztKruger April 14, 2011 Share April 14, 2011 The camera makes it look very yellow when in actuality it is a brilliant white.
