I added some snails from the sale at Petco and wondered a few things...

1. Can they turn themselves over? I would imagine they can't but wanted to ask to be sure.

2. I have few all on top of each other..are they cleaning the others shells or what?

Thx in advance

1) Not all snails can flip themselves over, so its always good to help them if you see one.

2) Yes, just giving their buddy a nice shell shine.

Asterea snails can not right them selves.

Other snails that are a good choice that can right themselves are trochus, cerith, and nerite. Nassarius snails are also great for cleaning your sand bed.

Do you have hermits? Make sure you put in extra snail shells(acceptable) so they don't eat all your snails. I used to keep hermit free tanks, but I was sent some on accident and didn't want to through them in the streat so I have 10 hermits in my tank. I find that trochus get too big for my 46g I keep speciality snials as well such as cowries and fighting conches!

i agree with John, and congrats on taking advantage of that sale, i did too and they seem to be doing the exact same thing in my tank. if i see one upside down, i always give them a little help.

Petco has selected hermits and snails on sale for 0.99 each. You have to be in their club but that only requires an email and a telephone number.

I have several hermits, just because they do such a great jobs eating any extra food, they also drag the shell around and wear off some algae. Besides I just like to watch them lol. But if I dont have enough snail shells around they do some massive snail killing occasionally. Which does get annoying.
