gizmoody February 19, 2011 February 19, 2011 Anyone used an automatic fish feeder (yep, vacation time) on a Red Sea Max 250 tank or a closed hood system that you can recommend? I am currently looking at the Eheim 3581 but not sure if it will fit without leaving the front opening of the hood open. Also I use frozen and pellet foods to feed. Any recommendations on the best type of food for auto feeders (pellet, flake, dried, etc). Any advice would be much appreciated.
reefhunter February 19, 2011 February 19, 2011 I have an eheim auto feeder and I use garlic flake food. I use it everyday, not just for vacations.
Origami February 19, 2011 February 19, 2011 For my wife's RSM 130, I've lashed together a small platform from egg crate and zip ties that hangs over the edge (leaving the swing feeding panel door open) and I place an Eheim feeder on that.
gizmoody February 19, 2011 Author February 19, 2011 Have you experienced any food clumping with the Eheim? Do you have a photo of the egg crate platform with feeder you can post? Thanks for the advice.
Origami February 20, 2011 February 20, 2011 No, the Eheim feeder that I have is great. I've had no trouble at all with it. It's the Eheim 3581 "Feed Air" automatic feeder. I've just created a DIY thread of the platform that I built from egg crate. Here's a link to it: DIY Egg Crate Feeder Platform
