steveoutlaw January 10, 2011 Share January 10, 2011 Ok, I'm looking to put together a 10g refugium (not connected to my display tank) for the express purpose of breeding of pods for my pipefish. Other than filling it with rubble and macro, is there anything special that I should put in it or feed it?
WaterDog January 10, 2011 Share January 10, 2011 I've read that some pods feed on phyto, and my pods did better when I was regularly feeding phyto, so you could try feeding that every couple days.
Chad January 10, 2011 Share January 10, 2011 depending on what type of copepods you want to culture, a 10 gallon tank may not be the best choice (ok for calanoids, not ideal for harpacticoids)... I have a handfull of PDFs that I can send your way... give me a few minutes to find them.
Chad January 10, 2011 Share January 10, 2011 (edited) In general, floaty pods eat free swimming food, and substrate dwelling pods eat detritus. Let me know if you have specific questions as I had various cultures going for a long time. Coral Hind January 10, 2011 Share January 10, 2011 If you want larger pods like amphipods you might want to throw some tiny fish food pellets in there as well as they are scavengers.
