Origami December 9, 2010 December 9, 2010 i wouldnt call it a theory, lol. Tom almost always seems to have it locked down. I don't know about that.... I just have a little bit of a background in chemistry from many, many years ago - and enough of a love for it (which this hobby unexpectedly restored) that has led me to do a little reading.
Aaron December 9, 2010 Author December 9, 2010 i wouldnt call it a theory, lol. Tom almost always seems to have it locked down. We are in agreement there Tom has steered me in the right direction many times over the last couple years. I seem to have gotten things fully dialed in. Parameters are stable exactly where I was hoping to land, at least for the last 24 hours. I will continue to test for a couple more days, just to make sure nothing weird happens. Alk ~10 dkh Cal ~430 Mag ~1350 pH 7.9-8.1 (I can live with the 7.9 at "night") Should make for awesome growth, especially since things won't be bouncing up and down anymore AS LONG AS I LEAVE IT THE HECK ALONE (sometimes I am bad about tinkering, looking for just a little more "perfection", which almost always ends up with me kicking myself)
Coral Hind December 10, 2010 December 10, 2010 Good news that you have it dialed in. I am in full agreement about Tom, he is a huge asset to the club.
Origami December 10, 2010 December 10, 2010 A pH of 7.9 is very acceptable. Especially for a tank running a calcium reactor. Check your alkalinity every couple or three days for the next week or two, just to make sure that things are truly stable. Also, check your magnesium every few weeks because, depending upon the media used, you may very likely find that you need to supplement magnesium. (You can supplement magnesium using magnesium chloride or, sometime when you're comfortable with the idea, adding dolomite, zeo mag, or neo mag to your calcium reactor.) Once you have the reactor dialed in, sit back and enjoy.
