Coral Hind November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 Can you post a picture of the dots? Any red streaks or just the dots? How big are the dots? Do they look like sores or blood marks under the skin?
davelin315 November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 Sounds like some severe trauma. I typically have only seen that in fish that are fresh from the store or shipping. A fish that age coming down with those symptoms sounds like something went catastrophically wrong with the water chemistry. You stated the age, how long have you had this fish?
trockafella November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 Didnt you just add a bunch of fish.? Any symptoms with the new fish, or are they in QT.?
Coral Hind November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 I was thinking it was ammonia poisoning but I needed more info.
GraffitiSpotCorals November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 It sounds like a septic disease. Could be from ammonia poisoning. You need to post your water quality and pics for us to help more
Jan November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 Could be ammonia poisoning. He had really high ammonia yesterday. he was treating a few fish for ick in a tank with L/S and rock. I told him to move everything into a bare QT with some PVC for the fish. I was thinking it was ammonia poisoning but I needed more info.
Jan November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 Justin, did you move those fish out of that tank into a tank with new water? They need to be in a bare QT; no sand and no L/R especially if you're treating with copper. Also make sure you change water with water that has already been mixed for a couple of days. New mix may irritate the lesions. That fish was laying on it's side 2 days ago when I saw it in the tank with sand and rock that you were treating for ick. He my not make it. Here is a link of diseases/See which one matches what you're seeing. Good luck! http://reefkeeping.com/issues/subject/disease.php
Coral Hind November 4, 2010 November 4, 2010 Justin, You asked for help but we need more info and interaction for us to help you. Make sure you have good O2 exchange. Add airstones or a venturi if you can. Ich attacks the gills and high ammonia can burn the gills, both will reduce the fish's ability to get the O2 they need. Which will result in the heavy breathing followed by death. When they do die they will normally die with gills spread and mouth open.
davelin315 November 5, 2010 November 5, 2010 Make sure to have biological filtration on there. A sponge filter will do the trick. Ammonia is produced rapidly in a system with no biological filter and can really stress out a fish, especially one that is already ill.
Justin November 5, 2010 Author November 5, 2010 Can you post a picture of the dots? Any red streaks or just the dots? How big are the dots? Do they look like sores or blood marks under the skin? it juts dot.. like pencil.. it over on his body.. huh ...

Jan November 5, 2010 November 5, 2010 (edited) A picture is fine but a history of events along with the picture is better. How long was the tang in the tank with the ammonia? Why was it in the hospital tank to begin with? Did it have ick? Did it start out having red dots or white dots or??? Did it develop lesions after you placed it in the tank with the high ammonia? How sick was the fish to begin with i.e; rapid breathing, white spots, lesions, not eating, laying on it's side? What was the progession/chain of events leading to today? What are tank parameters now? The more information you can give the more folks can help. Please pm me ur email so i can send pictures of my blue tang.. i really need help.. he is really sick.. and i have him for long time.. also he is very big.. 8 inches.. dont want lose him . Help!! Coral Hind November 5, 2010 November 5, 2010 I would do a large water change. Keep testing the ammonia. Do water changes when you see it adding up. What type of filter do you have on the QT?
