vnreef October 10, 2010 October 10, 2010 Need to ship my Gem Tang pair, anyone know how to ship? or local fish store? Iam happy to pay, the fish is 4 inch and other 5 inch, to located CA, over night air. I have box, ice bag for order before, just need plastic bags, maybe new box and air. Thanks to everyone happy Sunday
ctenophore October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 You may not need ice packs right now. I believe BRK has oxygen. Get some really big bags and ship with a lot of water and O2. For fish as expensive as those, I'd ship each in 30lbs of water, one to a box in giant bags

hypertech October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 www.shipyouraquatics.com I've never used them myself, but I've thought about it.
hypertech October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 (edited) Also, where are you located? I have one box right now and I'm getting another on Tuesday. You are welcome to them if you want them. I'm in Alexandria. Edited October 11, 2010 by hypertech
dakotasreef October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 Check your local fish store. They should have some large boxes from their shipments. I would also see if anyone local ships fish, that could help you out or give tips. I agree with the large bags with quite a bit of water. I would also would not feed the day before shipping(less waste produced.)
Dell2go October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 I think you can buy big bag at Pet Land. I do have boxes. Come see which ones you need.
vnreef October 11, 2010 Author October 11, 2010 Thanks everyone. Dont know what size box, looking plastic bag first. Can anyone estimate how much ship about $100?
hypertech October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 There is an estimator to get you a discounted shipping label on that site I linked to. Put in the dimensions and weight and see what it says.
dakotasreef October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 I would guess shipping will be quite a bit more. For me to ship a small 7x7x6 box weighing 5lbs to Cali was 76.00 for overnight priority. I just did a quick estimate on fedex.com and it was about 220.00 to ship to L.A. from Frederick, Md
Coral Hind October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 It isn't a door to door service but if someone can pick it up at the airport in Cali the air freight is the way to go. I use Delta Airlines out of National. There is a minimum cost of $40 and it is $0.54 per pound. That is for standard "Live Tropical Fish". So 75lbs would cost $40.50. That doesn't include tax or airport terminal fees. It cost a little more and for you it may be worth it. Ship via Delta's DASH where the boxes are kept with other live animals in a climate controlled room and not just sitting out on a loading dock. Make sure they mark the box clearly "LIVE TROPICAL FISH" and "DASH" so the cargo guys know to keep it with the dogs and cats in the climate controlled area. It costs $98 for up to 75lbs and $143 for 76 to 100lbs, plus tax and fees. Call them up and they book the space on a flight for you. 1-800-352-2746
dakotasreef October 11, 2010 October 11, 2010 That is a great deal if it is an option for you. Thanks for that info, I will keep that in mind in the future.
