CHUBAKAH September 17, 2010 September 17, 2010 Where do you have your high and low side PH set to, and what media do you use with that setting? TIA
gilmour01 September 17, 2010 September 17, 2010 i have my controller set to keep the reactor pH at 6.7, and i run the coarse Gen X media.
flowerseller September 17, 2010 September 17, 2010 If pH2 < 06.89 Then CO2 OFF If pH2 > 06.85 Then CO2 ON I use the GenX course media but do not like it as much as the old course media. I may not even like it as much as the small ARM media I used before switching to the old GenX course. I do not run the pH in my reactor as low as many because I like to have a steady slight stream as opposed to a fast drip.
zoozilla September 17, 2010 September 17, 2010 PH < 6.70 CO2 = OFF PH > 6.75 CO2 = ON At the moment, GenX Chunky. BTW, love your Signature
Origami September 17, 2010 September 17, 2010 If pH > 06.72 Then CO2 ON If pH < 06.68 Then CO2 OFF GenX chunky My effluent is controlled by a peristaltic pump operating 10 minutes out of every hour, thus delivering around 165 ml per hour (which is only like a drop a second if a steady drip). OSC 010/050 ON/OFF Then CRP ON This just supplements my kalk dosing.
CHUBAKAH September 17, 2010 Author September 17, 2010 Thanks guys! Seems everyone is running the Gen X now a days.
F&Fmgr September 17, 2010 September 17, 2010 Mark, Are you topping of with kalk? If so you might want to consider adding dolomite or Bwells Neomag to add Mag back to the tank. in my SPS trays and grow outs i keep the controller set 5.9-6.1, and I use a blend of neomag, ARM course, and aquamedic hydrocarbonate. The ARM is a good media readily available but I decided to add the aqua medic stuff to increase the alk in the effluent. Sean
CHUBAKAH September 17, 2010 Author September 17, 2010 No I do not top off with kalk. I have two 120 gallon reservoirs which one holds PH adjusted top off water, and the other one holds salt water. Right now I have been using the Bubble Magus doser to put Mag back in the tank but was reading up on the Neomag just a week or so ago. I read that this is used at a rate of 1 part Neomag and 10 parts CA media. Is that close to what your doing? I'm using the ARM right now, but only because that is what came with the reactor when I got it and wanted to give it a try. It's only been running a month or so, but I am getting good results, and my Alk which used to stay around 6 before is holding around 10.
Origami September 17, 2010 September 17, 2010 I'll be adding zeomag to my media during my next reactor maintenance (which is due soon) to help maintain magnesium levels, too.

I think your fine if your adding ionic magnesium, its just that topping of with kalk lowers your mag levels over time, thats why I asked. I use around that(neomag) maybe a lil more. it would definately be cheaper than mag chloride as it is very, very dense and even when i have to add ARM to the reactor, sometimes I dont need to add any neomag...It lasts a LONG time. However IME you need to lower the pH in the reactor more than you normally would to dissolve the neomag. I'll be adding zeomag to my media during my next reactor maintenance (which is due soon) to help maintain magnesium levels, too. I like it and use it. Ive been told you can use dolomite but i feel that dolomite has other impurities that i would want to dissolve into my tank. Sean
