Biscuit July 7, 2010 July 7, 2010 Is it normal for my HOB bak pak 2 skimmer to be making so much bubble noise? I've looked online and people say that by making the airline for the venturi longer it reduces the slurping noise, which it did, but this thing sounds like someone poured 120,000 gallons of shaken up soda into a swimming pool. Will it go away? Also, the micro bubbles are killing me. In a 29 gallon setup its hard to not notice them. It has the Accela pump and is brand new. I have a HOB refugium/skimmer I just bought from Nick that I might try next but I'm not sure yet, its almost too big across the back of the tank. If I left anything out about the setup that you need to know to help me out just tell me. Thanks guys.

I have had it for 2+ years and that's just how it is. In regards to the micro bubbles - Put a filter sock / bag on the exit pipe. It will double as a mechanical filter as well. Keep it clean or it will back up the skimmer. No more micro bubbles.
Biscuit July 8, 2010 Author July 8, 2010 Ok so I tried out the filter sock. Its still spitting out micro bubbles. Not quite sure why. Its not as bad as it was, but they are still flowing through. Its a 300 micron mesh media bag. Also, I was wondering if the Accela pump might be too powerful for the bak pak, I know its the "newest" and "best pump" available made specifically for the bak pak, but I swear, to me it looks like it is pushing so much that it is forcing a good amount of bubbles over to the second chamber, up and out. Anyone here do any easy mods on this skimmer to fix this?
Glenn July 8, 2010 July 8, 2010 are you coming to the FragFest ? I have a CPR BakPak that I can loan/sell you to test ... It has a SMALL pump but it did well on the 29g tank when I was using it. gds
Biscuit July 8, 2010 Author July 8, 2010 Yeah, I'm planning on going but I didn't really want to buy a third skimmer in two weeks, thanks for the offer though. Do you think it could be just the pump? I messed around with some adjustments last night and it seems to be getting better. I'll have to check again when I get home from work this evening. What pump were you using on yours, the rio?
Biscuit July 10, 2010 Author July 10, 2010 Ok i have uploaded a video to youtube, its easier to see the bubbles than with just a photo. The white bag around the outlet is the media bag I used, but it isnt helping much as you can see. Also, the color is way off it seems because the rock that comes into view on the right is not that dark of a green at all. Here is the link. Micro bubbles
