BowieReefer84 June 22, 2010 Share June 22, 2010 So, what would be better in terms of PAR? 130 watts power compact or 96 watts T5?
sdah0414 June 22, 2010 Share June 22, 2010 Would depend on the lamps you were using as well as if the t5s had individual reflectors. Generally speaking though, the t5s will perform better than the pc's.
jason the filter freak June 22, 2010 Share June 22, 2010 Its dependent on a number of things, the bulbs you're running, the ballast that is running them, and the reflectors behind them
Coral Hind June 22, 2010 Share June 22, 2010 In general, if the bulbs were of the same kelvin and both with reflectors behind them I would say the T-5s would still give out more PAR. The design of the PC allows a lot of the light to be emitted into itself which is not efficient. The T-5s also offer more flexability in bulb colors as they are widely produced in different kelvin ratings. The PCs are very limited and I think they will slowly be phased out. treesprite June 24, 2010 Share June 24, 2010 Something to consider when making a decision, is that power compact bulbs have to be replaced about every 6 months, whereas T-5s not for 12 to 18 months.
BowieReefer84 June 24, 2010 Author Share June 24, 2010 Thanks treesprite, but I am going with a 150 watt halide I am getting from Rob for a good price. I wanted the shimmer, and I love the 20k look.
