hand crank power source

I found this thing that is sold as an emergency phone charger - it is a hand crank thing like the flashlights, except that it has a power receptacle for a phone car charger. Does anyone know if this could be adapted in some way to connect to a powerhead or something, if ever there is absolutely no power source other than the human hand?

The hand cranked generator (charger) reviews I've read say that some of these work ok for a cell phone, where a few milliwatts are needed for a brief phone call. But I wouldn't expect it to provide the 20W needed to power an MJ1200, for example.

 

A larger generator could work fine though, if you attached it to a windmill, stationary bike, or some other form of kinetic energy.

Unfortunately I can't have a generator in an apartment. I wouldn't want to have gas on teh balcony, and the noise might be disturbing to neighbors.

 

What about just some airstone things? I have battery ones, but you never know when batteries are going to be found dead.

I think some air stones run off of batteries is your best bet. You could buy a nice sized UPS unit and run the air stones off of it.

Oh well, just trying to be creative in an area for which I am mostly ignorant. At least I only paid $5 a piece for them.
