Hi all,

Wondering if anyone knows of a local source (NOVA area) that sells Nori/seaweed at a cheaper price than buying at the pet stores.

Thanks,

asian market

Yeah I figured that much, I was hoping to get a store name/street name.

Thanks,

Grand Mart just off the freeway at the Duke/Little River Turnpike exit. It is across the street from the large shopping center (and horribly set up) with the shoppers, total wine, ect. in it.

excellent produce, fish and meat departments too by the way.

Most of the grocery stores carry it as well. I know Harris Teeter, Whole Foods, and usually Safeway and Giant have it. But your best bet is mail-order: www.noridirect.com - get the grade D or E stuff, it is tougher and won't dissolve in the water.

Thanks for the tips. I know exactly where that shopping center is.

Great to know!

In Springfield, I think there is one off of Backlick Rd. where Burger King is located, not sure if its called Grand Mart or what. I think it is in the location where a Hechinger or Lowe's was located. I just make sure to check the ingredients to make sure there are no preservatives or salt added, just plain.

If you go with Nori Direct, let me know. I'll split an order with you... I dunno about you but I don't need 1000 sheets.

I ended up going to Grand Market tonight and boy was that store interesting! Lots of live foods! They had live crab, crawfish, talapia, lobster and more. Tons of seafood. Pretty neat store, we will definitely go back for some king crab legs.

They also had LOTS of NORI to choose from. Some of the nori was seasoned so I stayed away from that, I just picked up the smallest pack of nori (only had roasted) I could find, it was around 2 dollars and came with around 4 times the amount you get at the pet store for 8 dollars. They also carried larger packs for around 12 dollars, they had 4 different color package 'types' to choose from. From the best me and my wife could tell, there was no indication what the difference was. We did notice that 2 packs had the same nutritional facts, while one of the others had significantly more vitamin a and b. I will probably go back and pick that one up too. I didn't pick it up because I wasn't sure if roasted NORI was OK, so far from what I read online it is.

If anyone is interested, i bought WAYYY too much from noridirect. I have the majority of it left. PM me if interested.

Haha, I love that store... it is almost always chaotic with way too many people pushing carts between the aisles, where there really isnt room for any, and the crazy guys with pallet jacks everywhere like there was no one in the way... it reminds me more of a outdoor market like Pike's Place than a grocery store. I think it is fun and do the majority of my grocery shopping there. laugh.gif

It was too packed when we went but it seems like the kind of store that could be a little chaotic. I am sure we will be going to back in the future for meats, seafood, and produce.
