lawnboy January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 After filling my water changing bucket I noticed that the thermometer was broken and the metal balls inside were missing, are these balls lead, will it hurt to use the water on top and clean bucket after water change? cabrego January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 where are the balls? If the balls only interacted with the fresh saltwater bucket, I would error on the side of caution and just dump it.
Sikryd January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 (edited) I broke one in my QT tank and never have had any problems. I sucked up all the sand where I thought they might be though. Edit - I forgot to add - they can't be picked up with a magnet... Edited January 20, 2010 by Sikryd
Coral Hind January 20, 2010 Share January 20, 2010 If a magnet doesn't work then they aren't steel, probably lead. I think you are fine to use the water. The sooner the better though.

extreme_tooth_decay January 21, 2010 Share January 21, 2010 I would be more concerend about mercury... I think they are all made with alcohol now If the temp reading was a red or colored liquid then it wasn't mercury.
