Sph2sail September 13, 2003 September 13, 2003 Over the last 2 years, I've read quite a bit from this list. But to help the new folks, here's the order that I read them in and which ones. No they are not such hard reads, just that info overload hits fast and it takes some time to sort it from book theory to what you want to do in a reef tank... The first book I read is in Michael's list... "The Coral Reef Aquarium"- Ron Shimek Then... "The Modern Coral Reef Aquarium (Vol 1)"- Svein Fossa and Alf Jacob Neilsen Then I started looking at what goes IN to the tank, reading... "Clownfishes"- Joyce Wilkerson "Aquarium Corals"- Eric Borneman and most recently... "Marine Invertabrates"- Anthony Calfo and Bob Fenner I think I got the most out of Fossa and Neilsen. My kids all really liked Shimek's book, because it is smaller, easier and quite complete. Then I really wanted a clownfish and had heard that these guys can get really mean and I had seen so many varieties in the wild while diving. Wilkerson's book covers them very well. Borneman's book is a bible like reference. Everything you want to know about a coral species, it is probably in there. Very cool book to look through and drool at what you Should have in your tank... Just started perusing Calfo's book. Just got it. Enjoy the reading! steve
Sph2sail September 13, 2003 September 13, 2003 I must also state how important the members of WAMAS were to my setup... Reading does not turn easily into physical practice in a reef. These books are not really a "how to" guide for plumbing, parts, pumps, etc... I had lots of visits and help from members (thx, MichaelG and Reefmon in particular). Club building parties help you get stuff done... All this and reading too... do we get a PhD for all this effort? :D s
traveller7 September 15, 2003 September 15, 2003 One of my favorites: Aquatic Systems Engineering: Devices and How They Function by Pedro Ramon Escobal http://www.amazon.com/exec....s=books
Diane March 16, 2010 March 16, 2010 Is there still a WAMAS store for BOOKS? the link above didn't work.
Brian Ward March 16, 2010 March 16, 2010 This is definitely an old thread. Last post was in 2003! It looks like the links are to Amazon and most of them still work. Was there one in particular you were having trouble with? You might consider searching for the title/author shown in Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or your preferred book vendor.
GaryL March 16, 2010 March 16, 2010 (edited) brian in the oldern days of the web page the founding wamas founders set it up for wamas to get a percentage of book purchased through wamas but coming from amazon via the wamas store, which helped the club. i'm guess diane was wanting to help wamas get its cut? any ideas on how to set that back up? Edited March 16, 2010 by GaryL
Brian Ward March 16, 2010 March 16, 2010 OK. The "WAMAS Store" page located on www.wamas.org was not migrated to the new site. Please feel free to use the links above to purchase books and I will look into setting up another Amazon 'library' page or list that will include recommended reading.
