I have some rocks that had undesirable life on them so I soaked them in regular water then RO/DI water (don't ask me why i did this) then I placed them in the yard on a bench in the sun for several days. Now i put them in a pail with tank water, power head and heater so they can cure. How long should this take? Am I looking for the rock to cycle?

Can someone please answer this post?

Not sure anyone knows... I have a 'rock-curing' tank where I throw such rocks, and leave them for months. The tank is healthy and 'cycled', so it probably doesn't take long. Eventually, the rock comes out for mounting corals, or whatever. In fact, I have quite a few corals growing in there, despite just having PC lighting over it to encourage coralline growth. Also - as long as the rock is nice and clean, I'm sure you can go ahead and use it in your tank without any 'cycle' - as long as you just ADD it, instead of replacing what you have. It's not going to hurt - it just isn't going to help much until it's built up a good colony of beneficial bacteria in it.

Which still doesn't answer the original question - how long to build up that bacteria???
