Boret July 9, 2009 July 9, 2009 I added a frag tank (20 gal Long) in the little space under the stairs where I currently have my refugium (15+ gal). I was wondering if it would be ok to run the frag tank in opposite photo period to the display tank the same as the fuge. Both are in the same room and the fuge light already floods the frag tank, and vice versa, so I thought that it might make more sense to have both lights at the same time. Any advice?
Leishman July 9, 2009 July 9, 2009 (edited) It's best have them opposite for a more stable pH and tank temp. Edit: that's if they are linked together. Edited July 9, 2009 by Leishman
Boret July 9, 2009 Author July 9, 2009 Excellent!!! My only doubt now then is behavior of corals towards food. From what I read online corals feed at night. So, should I change my feeding schedule and feed twice? That way both the display tank and the frag tank get food when the corals have the polyps fully extended. Or maybe it really doesn't matter.... Also.... what livestock should I add to the frag tank? Gracers would be great to take care of any possible algae. But any tangs are out of the question because of size. A wrasse might be good. I already added a couple of snails. Debating if I should add any hermit crabs as I don't have any sand in the bottom and only eggcrate supported with PVC pipe. I think they will only stay in the bottom doing nothing for the frags up top.

CHUBAKAH July 9, 2009 July 9, 2009 I keep a yellow Coris Wrasse, a Six line Wrasse, and Tomini [sp] Tang, in my frag tank to keep everything free of bugs and algae. I also keep inverts in there. Seems to do the trick.
Boret July 9, 2009 Author July 9, 2009 What size is your frag tank Mark? Do you have sand in the bottom?
CHUBAKAH July 9, 2009 July 9, 2009 What size is your frag tank Mark? Do you have sand in the bottom? 57 US Gallons give or take. No sand Was filthy in this pick, but is spotless right now.
Boret July 9, 2009 Author July 9, 2009 That's almost 3 times the size of mine. I think that at most I can add 1 fish.
CHUBAKAH July 9, 2009 July 9, 2009 If I was only to add one fish, I think I would go with the yellow coris wrasse.
