Bob June 11, 2009 June 11, 2009 Dear Learning, Browse the past posts...enter ICK. This question has been answered many, many times. Most of us have had the nasty at some point in our aquarium hobby. There are many different approaches. For Me: 1. Get Ruby's "KICK ICK" and follow directions. Available at many Fish stores. 2. Add UV if you dont have already. Over long run it is worth it (to me) 3. Feed garlic as much as you can; adding to food at every turn. Feed very well but over feed to poorly affect water chemistry. (Skimmer off line during Kick Ick treatment.) This approach has worked well for me in the past. Continuing with the UV as well, I have never been panicky adding new fish to my system without quarantine which we all know we all should do all the time. Finally a little prayer never hurts. Good Luck Bob

Good Luck Bob Good advice - search on here and google and you should have 95% of the different things available. I prayed once though and he answered back to me - "Start QTing you idiot" - lol Edited June 11, 2009 by Sikryd
zygote2k June 11, 2009 June 11, 2009 As long as you have good water parameters and practice good animal husbandry, ich shouldn't ever be a concern. UV sterilizers only work under optimal conditions, garlic is a myth, and ich medications are usually treating the symptoms, not the cause. Weekly water changes, low stocking levels and low nitrates go a long way in the prevention of many diseases in your aquarium.
