Barebottomcorals_Ed April 15, 2009 April 15, 2009 What kind of fishing line do you prefer... was wondering any good ideas on catching my fish...have a 135gl tank with alot of LR. only have 5 fish. hard time catching freshwater fish ...lol.......2tangs medium size....2 clowns, and a blennie... One of my tangs has ICH, wanna pull all fish and put into hypo tank!
jason the filter freak April 15, 2009 April 15, 2009 drain the tank to a few inches of water into multiple tubs using a mag pump (bigger the better) rather than a siphon into awaiting containers. Catch the fish quickly and put in appropriate container. then use the mag pump (or other submersible pump) and put the water back in the tank asap.
TROLL April 15, 2009 April 15, 2009 Corner the fellas with 6" net and 10" net, when he's near 10" net, coax him into position with 6" net. Turn off light so he can't make quick escape.
Barebottomcorals_Ed April 16, 2009 Author April 16, 2009 all great ideas!....have herd of using a larger rose vase and putting food in the bottom and letting them swim in.?...anyone tried this before.?
zygote2k April 16, 2009 April 16, 2009 Why not just let the fish ride the ick out? If they are otherwise healthy, they should get over it in a week or so. Trying to catch a fish in a big tank causes way too much stress on an already stressed fish.

zygote2k April 16, 2009 April 16, 2009 There is a great misbelief in this hobby that if you have sick fish, they need to be removed from the DT and placed into QT. Often the QT is a great deal smaller than the DT, which will cause even more stress on the fish. Most fish will recover from most diseases provided they are healthy and good eaters. Just let the fish ride out the disease and their immune systems will be stronger the next time something pops up.
Sikryd April 16, 2009 April 16, 2009 (edited) If they aren't too expensive I would let them ride it out. I have a lot of expensive ones - so all mine are in QT for a month (they had ood or brook). All subsequent additions will be QT'ed for a month regardless of "looks" of health. I was lucky in catching all my fish except for a small Tomini tang. I used a 10" net and my small grabber. Worked like a charm! The emptying method is by far the best if you have coral. Edited April 16, 2009 by Sikryd
sen5241b April 16, 2009 April 16, 2009 I had a lively, hungry mandarin goby with ich and I put him in a small QT tank. He died. I'd say if your fish take a turn for the worse OR the ich just won't go away THEN use a QT.
TROLL April 17, 2009 April 17, 2009 I ride all of my fish out. I just leave them in tank and they all live. I tried to do QT thingy once many years ago and NEVER AGAIN! QT is just effective way of corralling up your fish and execute them in private.
