jamesbuf October 13, 2008 October 13, 2008 Never really looked into running ozone, but after speaking with Garrett about it this weekend, I think it might be something worth looking into. Who here runs Ozone and why are you using it instead of a UV sterilizer?? Most people are running their ozone into their protein skimmers, but does this affect skimmate production at all?? Any advice or experiences shared is appreciated.
Highland Reefer October 13, 2008 October 13, 2008 (edited) Randy Holmes-Farley has the following articles on Ozone Use in The Aquarium: Ozone and the Reef Aquarium, Part 1: Chemistry and Biochemistry: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-03/rhf/index.php Ozone and the Reef Aquarium, Part 2: Equipment and Safety: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-04/rhf/index.php Ozone and the Reef Aquarium, Part 3: Changes in a Reef Aquarium upon Initiating Ozone: http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-05/rhf/index.php The normal Ozonators you run on reefs may kill something as small as a virus, but will not kill anything larger like bacteria. You are better off using a UV sterilizer for that purpose. Ozone basically gives you clearer water. It's not inexpensive. Edited October 13, 2008 by Highland Reefer
Gadgets October 14, 2008 October 14, 2008 Just added it back to my tank a couple days ago and things are looking VERY good. I LOVE how clear it makes the water.

Gadgets October 14, 2008 October 14, 2008 I'm running mine through the skimmer. Production is about the same.
SkiCurtis October 14, 2008 October 14, 2008 I have one order with NAGA. allot of his clinents have ozone and the water is crystal clear. so I cant wait to hook it up. Curtis

SkiCurtis October 15, 2008 October 15, 2008 How much are we talking about for a decent ozone setup? The one I getting I think is 230-250 . and I will start on the very low setting and slowly raise my clarity.
jamesbuf October 15, 2008 Author October 15, 2008 I don't get it. I thought Ozone essentially sterilizes the water, which would mean it would help against pathogens in the water column. Gonna go do some more reading. Looks like I'm sticking with UV at the time though. Thanks for the comments everyone.
