I just replaced all my RO/DI pre filters as well as my RO membrane. Now I'm hearing the ASOV (auto shut off valve) making a loud vibrating sound every 9 seconds or so when the RO output valve is closed. Is the ASOV bad or is it just air purging from the system? I made sure that the valve is connected correctly with in/out designation. It's been going like this for at least 2 hrs after flushing the membrane for at least 1 hr.

Thanks :why:

Rob,

Some RO/DI units do this "bang bang" ing sound when they start up. Seems to have something to do with the water pressure and what I call a "hard start / stop" there is a unit that some RO/DI makers sell that is just a pvc pipe with 2 end caps and J.G. fitting for water in and out. Perhaps something inside it (I always imagin it to be a racket ball) that creates an air gap and will slow the starts and stops.

Seems to change over time as filters get dirty and are replaced.

good luck

It sounds like the air bubbles are slowly working themselves out. Since most R/O membranes are horizontally mounted it helps to take them and turn them vertical so the brine tube is at the top, then tap it against the wall or something else to help get the bubbles out of the membrane and pressure vessel.

I once replaced a member's membrane in his unit and because of the way he had it positioned a giant air bubble was trapped in the pressure vessel. The membrane was wet and dirty on the bottom 2/3 and the top 1/3 was bone dry and looked brand new.

Thanks for the responses. I did hear a loud 'hammer' sound when I first turned the water on, but this sound is a bit different. It literally sounds like snoring... I will let it sit for couple days and hope the air works itself out. If not I'll try taking the ASOV apart and see how it works.
