I have been using a typhoon III for a while now and when I make my ro water it comes out of the tube at 001 and then as it stays in the trash can for a day or so it goes up to 55. Not sure why this happens but now I have no water for my tank. I keep the trashcan clean and have no reason why it happens. Please let me know what you guys think...............

That makes sense. The cause/culprit is the trash can, not the Typhoon :). No matter what, the cans and other containers will bump up your tds from 000 to something.

A couple of years ago, dhoch and I conducted water testings at one of the WAMAS meetings. All of the RODI readings were in the 060 ppm average. It all came down to the container where the water was held. Not sure if there is a problem with that, but I did kept my RODI in trash cans for over two years without having my tank showing any signs that something was wrong. I wouldn't loose any sleep over it

what kind of trash can are you using? My water continues to test 0 tds even in the trashcan unless I've cross-contaminated with the pump I use for moving water around (even then the only contaminent is salt).

I use a regular Sterilite trash can (from target) and my tds stays within +- 2 depending on how long it's in storage. I'm guessing it's probably because my trash can isn't air tight.

To go from 0 to 55 is pretty significant. What type of storage container are you using and where is it located?

TDS is simply a measurement of charge ions and is not necessarily a bad thing, just a sign that some charged ions of some type are being measured. If you have low (zero preferred) readings your of your RO/DI unit, the storage container you are using is food grade and you do not have copper pipes or other things in the storage container to contaminate the water, I wouldn't worry about the TDS reading.

THanks for the information...I am using a regular trashcan I got from target and bought it brand new and cleaned it out with RO water and never done anyhting else with it. Thanks for the help I dumped the water and cleaned again to see what happens.

you might want to switch to a rubbermaid brute can they're not terribly expensive. it is food grade and the lid snaps on tight.

You can also buy the heavy duty wheel base for the Brute cans so they are easy to move around.

yep, did that too

I had a similar problem after making RO/DI water for a while and storing it in a Rubbermaid trashcan. What I did to address the problem was to take the trashcan out and give it a good scrubbing with a scotchbrite pad and clear water, making sure to give it a good rinse afterwards. I've not had the problem since. My guess is that something began to grow on the walls of the trashcan and I just had to remove it.
