Just when you think you're starting to figure it all out, you go back to feeling like a total newb.

I swear I saw a discussion about vho tubes of slightly diffrent lenghts, maybe I was just imagining it.

Was it always that VHO 4fters were always longer than t5 4fters?

Yes, VHOs come in 48" and 46.5". That's the reason for the discussion that you are referring to. We were trying to figure out the length of the various retro options when you add in the end caps.

yep.

The t-5s are all less than 48... 46.5 ish I guess, but the VHOs still come in 46.5 and 48+ endcaps. Dunno why anyone would want the 48s, yet they are more common. Not all MFGs make the 46.5s

Tanks for the feed back, hope exotic carries the 48" or shorter. Aquarium one, congressional, aquarium depot, scales tropical fish warehouse, and house of tropicals all don't carry VHO's period

It may be a long trip, but BRK has them all.

Yep, and even though some e-tailers sell them for less per tube, by the time you add in the cost of the mailer (pricey) and shipping, BRK is cheaper than any online vendor I've found.

BTW, I heard a rumor on RC that URI/UV were phasing out VHO, starting with the 46.5" tubes. E-mailed them and they said they had no intention of phasing out VHO, and that the 46.5" tubes were their best sellers.

I'm pretty sure it's what they are used in tanning beds... which I can't ever see going out of buisness so there will always be bulbs made.
