I have a pocillopora that has begun bleaching from one side to the other. It bleaches clean as "it" goes along. At the moment it has killed approximately half over the last 3 days. My guess is based on the way it's going that it is being eaten by something, but I'm not sure which one? Does this sound like red bugs or AEFW?

Anyone know of a vet that is open today (or other place to get meds)? I'd like to treat is asap.

Before medicating, you need to check and see what is actually going wrong. Take a magnifying glass and take a closer look at the tissue for flatworms or redbugs. If you don't see them there, then it's more likely RTN or STN, as your case may be. This can be caused by just about anything. Try an iodine bath (check out the thread that Leishman posted, if you don't have Lugols, just get betadine).

I'm pretty sure that flatworms or red bugs won't affect a pocci. I wold look at water quality, flow and lighting. What are your params?

Have any pics?

AEFW are obligate acroporavores -- i.e. - they only eat acropora. Red bugs might affect a poci, but I dount it, and certainly not in the way you describe. They are more of an irritant - causing lack of PE, loss of color, lack of growth. Plus, they are relatively big and easy to see. You can see them with the naked eye without even removing the coral from the tank.

This sounds like regular old STN to me. Lots of possible causes (maybe bacterial?), no easy fixes. Best bet is to frag a couple of healthy pieces and hope to salvage them.

maybe something in your tank is picking the polyps off of it as is what happened to mine. One of the frags ended up compeltely dying after turning white, and the other actually has grown some polyps back over the white areas (however there is still white under them).

Thank you guys. Sorry for the delay. I managed to get sick myself for a few days and was stuck in bed :S I'm glad to know it's not an undesirable that managed to get in!
