CBS November 6, 2007 November 6, 2007 New to hobby... connecting my sump to my overflows. Have standard black bulkheads with slip joints. Was gluing standard white PVC piping (valve etc) to the bulkhead but notice that the joint is not setting up the same as a pvc-to-pvc joint. Taking longer. Have held off on further joints until I figure this out Using purple primer and blue pvc cement... Should I be using something else? Appreciate any quick advice /assistance... really anxious to get water flowing ... Thanks! CBS

CBS if they are regular bulkheads available to the hobby the normal pvc glue and primer is the correct stuff. john
flowerseller November 6, 2007 November 6, 2007 If you are using the blue pvc cement aka (rain R shine) you do not need primer and are better off without it.

I also use a blue pvc cement that does reccomend primer, I dont know what rain R shine is but I always use primer / cleaner on every PVC joint I make, several times a day.... it cleans and softens the plastic, better preparing the surface for the bond.
